USA Select Basketball is excited to announce Reggie Bratton signs with Worthing Thunder
Reggie Bratton, a former Lenior Ryhne star signed his first professional basketball contract with the Worthing Thunder of the British Basketball League (BBL). USA Select GM, Sean Kilmartin placed the high scoring Bratton with long time friend and highly decorated coach, Dave Titmuss. Coach Titmuss, one of the most experienced in all of the UK is in his first season with the Thunder and required a versatile ‘combo guard” and was excited to sign the 6’4″ Reggie Bratton. Reggie competed at the USA Select Exposure Tour Camp in June and was selected to the all star team.
ABA Team signs several USA Select Players!
USA Select General Manager is pleased to announce that the Cleveland Rockers of the American Basketball Association (ABA) has signed several USA Select European Exposure Tour members Johnny Moses, Chad Hunt, Marvin Rashad and Dave Fox. All three players were valuable contributors for the 2008 Exposure tour in Europe.
Johnny Moses is a 6’6” combo guard from Trinidad State, Chad Hunt is an athletic 6’5” shooting guard from Lake Erie (NCAA D 3), David Fox is an outgoing, much sought after 6’10” center from St. Bonaventure and Marvin Rashad is a high scoring 6’4” from Fairmont State. All of the players attended USA Select Exposure Tour camps.
Currently, the Rockers are at the top of the league in the ABA.
Noah Brown playing in Mexico!
Former Appalachian State University star and USA Select Player, Noah Brown is continuing his professional career in Mexico. After his debut season in the UK where he was the league leading scorer, he headed to sunny Mexico for the past several season. He is currently with Halcones UV Veracruz in the LNBP (top league) and doing well. They are currently 30-12
Chucky Frierson signs to play in Saudi Arabia!
Former USA Select 2007 Tour member and energetic leader signed to play with Al Fetah in Saudi Arabia (D-1). Chucky was represented by Adam Prossin (USA Select/ Prossin Sports management). In typical fashion, Chucky lead the team is points and rebounding in 3 of his first 4 games! USA Select General manager considers Frierson one of his all time top 10 most versatile players on all of the tours!
Dustin Bevard signs in Germany with Franken Hexar in Pro B
Dustin Bevard , former USA Select 2007 Tour member signs to play in Germany with Pro B team, Franken Hexar. Dustin is a 6’10” athletic forward, spent his first season in the UL where he averaged 25 points and 13 rebounds with the Arrows of the EBL 1. He was represented by USA Select friend Adam Prossin of Prossin Sports management.
RCT Glamorgan Gladiators basketball club have signed Jay McMillan
The 6ft 7in American player who proved to be a big hit in his first game. American-born Jay McMillan led his new team to a 89-84 victory against Brixton Topcats on Saturday at Glamorgan University in the English National League Division Three. McMillan arrived in the Rhondda from Appalachian State University and attended the same college as Dave Lawrence, who became a household name in the Rhondda in the 1980s when he played for Just Rentals basketball team.
Doug McLaughlin-Williams signs with England Basketball power, Sheffield Arrows
Sean Kilmartin, USA Select General Manager, was pleased to announce Doug McLaughlin Williams signed his first professional contract with the Sheffield Arrows of the England basketball League Division 1 (EBL).
Doug, a powerful 6’8” forward hails from Appalachian State University and is another in a long line of ASU players to head to Europe to continue their basketball career. Sean Kilmartin, a former Appalachian State Mountaineer himself, was happy to see Doug sign with the Arrows.
The team, located in Sheffield England, has had a long tradition with USA Select and Appalachian. Mr. Kilmartinhas placed former ASU standouts Noah Brown, Clint Deas, Chris McFarland and now Doug Mc Laughlin Williams with the Arrows. All of the ASU players have done well there!
USA Select Basketball announces the signing of Jay Mc Millan’s first professional contract
USA Select General Manager, Sean Kilmartin was excited to announce former Appalachian State University power forward, Jay Mc Millan singed his first professional contract with Glamorgan in the Wales Basketball league. Mc Millan, a 6’7” forward, played for Houston Fancher at ASU and was part of several conference championship teams.
Jay singed with a Glamorgan team coached by Basketball Wales Senior men’s Coach and long time friend, Steve Williams. Coach Williams has a long history with USA Select founders, Sean Kilmartin and David Lawrence. Coach Williams has coached several of Wales national teams in FIBA competition as well as coaching David Lawrence in hisprofessional days and coaching Ryan Kilmartin ( Sean Kilmartin’s son) in the European 18 U Championships last summer.
In an USA Select first, Mc Millan will have double duty, playing with a team in the England basketball League (EBL) also. Both teams worked out schedules to allow Jay, a highly coveted big man, to participate in both leagues simultaneously.
Terrell Smith Signs with Reading Rockets of EBL!
Terrell Smith was quite impressive on his recent USA Select basketball Tour. So much so that Reading Rickets of the England Basketball League Division 1 (EBL) signed him just one day after the match.
USA Select General Manager, Sean Kilmartin has a long relationship with the family owned club just outside London, England. The team is owned by Gary Johnson and family and is coached by highly respected Dave Titmus and Matt Johnson.
Terell Smith played basketball at Spartanburg Methodist College before transferring to Limestone. He averaged 13 points, six rebounds and three steals per game while attending Spartanburg Methodist. In his first season at Limestone he averaged 8.72 points per game and was one of the Saints best defenders with 17 blocked shots. He scored a season high 22 points against Lees-McRae and scored 21 points against Wingate. He ended his college career with one of the best seasons ever. He has three double-doubles and scored more than 10 points on 20 occasions. He scored a career high 33 points against Belmont Abbey. He ended his senior season leading the Saints in points with 491 which places him second all-time in the Limestone record books for a single season. He ends his career in the Limestone record books in the top ten ranked in points, rebounds, steals and blocks. He ended his last game as a Limestone Saint against the 2007 Div-II champions Barton College by recording 31 points and 10 rebounds.
Roman Mims Sign first pro contract in London!
USA Select point guard Roman Mims signed his first professional basketball contract inking with the Paws London Capital of the British basketball league (BBL). Roman, a high scoring (24 ppg) point guard from Mount Aloysius College was originally seen during the USA Select European Tour by Capital boss, Brandon Bethal. The team, located in central London plays in the top league in the UK , the BBL.
Josh Gross Signs with Everton in BBL
Josh Gross, USA Select Alumni, signs with Everton in the British Basketball League. After a successful stint in the NBDL this summer, Josh was inked by the British Basketball League club. A 6’5” slasher, he will be expected to make an immediate impact.
USA Selects Tyler Ousley signs with Arrows!
Sean Kilmartin, USA Select General Manager was pleased to announce that 6’9” Tyler Ousley, an Otterbein University All American, signed to play for the Sheffield Arrows in the England basketball Association (EBL ). Tyler, a member of the 2008 European Tour squad showed all round skills at both the Forward and Center spot for USA Select.
The Sheffield Arrows were quick to scoop him up to add depth for their 2008 / 2009 campaign. Three-year letterman … Earned first letter as a freshman in 2002-03 … Career highs are 34 points,
18 rebounds and seven blocked shots … Continuing studies student, pursuing a second under graduate degree in Business Administration … Earned his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management in 2006 … As a Senior: Earned first team All-OAC honors … Started all 26 games … Named team’s MVP … Led the OAC in rebounding and blocked shots, and finished 7th in scoring … Ranked 7th for blocked shots and 14th for rebounding in NCAA Division III … Recorded 16 double-doubles, scoring in double digits in 24 of 26 games … Tallied career highs for points (34) and rebounds (18), and matched his career high for blocked shots (7) versus John Carroll (02/11/06).
Former EBL Player of the Year, Ryan Patton goes to BBL Worthing Thunder
USA Select General Manager Sean Kilmartin is pleased to announced that former EBL Player of the Year, Ryan Patton has signed with Worthing Thunder Worthing in the top league of British basketball, the British Basketball league (BBL). Ryan was a member of the 2004 European Select Tour Thunder’s team building plans ahead of their first season in the BBL took another step towards completion with the announcement that Ryan Patton (180-G-78, college: Youngstown St.) will lead the team from the point guard position. The 6’0′ guard from Ohio was EBL Division 1 MVP with Sheffield Arrows in 2004/05, where he averaged 30 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists a game, hitting 42% of his three point attempts. A serious car accident curtailed his career, but now fully fit again, he will join Thunder having just finished a spell in Qatar where he averaged 15 points and 6 assists per game. Thunder Operations Director Alan Sweetman-Hicks is pleased that Patton has chosen to join Thunder: ‘I’m sure most Thunder fans will remember Ryan from his performances with the Arrows, particularly his last-second shot to beat us in the National Cup semi finals and then controlling the National Trophy Final at the Brighton Centre. ‘Had it not been for his accident I’m sure he would have moved onto better things, but he is now rebuilding his career and comes fresh to us from a spell in Qatar. From people we’ve spoken to he is in the best shape of his life and is looking forward to returning to England. I can’t wait to see what kind of impact he will make in the BBL’.
Kevin Francis signs in Finland
Kevin Francis, a powerful 6’8″ forward from Cleveland State University signed his first professional contract with Finnish Division 1 newcomer JKS Jarpenpaa. Kevin, participated in 2 of the USA Select tryout camps and was invited to play on the 2008 European Tour and has successfully ascertained a job before the tour begins. In a phone call with USA Select GM , Sean Kilmartin, Kevin was very excited about his first professional contract. JKS (Jarvenpaa) will play 2008-09 first time ever on the second highest level (1. Division) in Finland. JKS roster is about ready for coming season. There are now 13 players on the roster, when Finnish F Toni Honka (194-F/C-84) and Canadian F Kevin Francis (203-F-84, college: Vincennes JC) joined the Team. Francis comes from Cleveland State University, where he averaged 4,3 ppg – 3,9 rpg in 34 games last season. JKS Head Coach is Olli-Pekka Auvinen.
Maurice Horton back in Finland’s Top Division!
Sean Kilmartin and USA Select Basketball is proud to acknowledge that Maurice Horton from Mount Olive College has been signed by his former club, top division Kaukajoki. Maurice was originally seen by top Finnish Coach Greg Gibson in USA Select’s Raleigh, NC exposure camp and signed. After a successful season in Finland , Maurice played in the CBA last season and then was resigned by Greg Gibson in Finland.
Coach Gibson is a well respected and highly successful coach in Finland and a very good friend to Sean Kilmartin and USA Select Basketball. During the off season, Coach Gibson resides in the Raleigh NC Area. During the 2007 European Exposure Tour, the USA Select team played in Kauhajoki and is scheduled to do so again this September.
Shawan Robinson signs with Deutsche Bank Skyliners in Germany.
THE DEUTSCHE BANK SKYLINERS only had 24 hours to recuperate from their six man win against Nrdlingen, but had more gas and legs as they defeated the Kaiserslautern Braves 71 to 57 with nine hungry players. Jan Novak, son of Basketball city manager Kamil Novak made his debut scoring four points. The fans also saw the debut of former USA Select player, Shawan Robinson (187-G-83) from Clemson University. Robinson played in Geissen last year.
Adam Simons signs with EBL Division 1 newcomer, Bristol Flyers
USA Select General Manager Sean Kilmartin is please to announce that Adam Simons was the teams first signing with EBL (England Basketball) Division 1 newcomer Bristol Academy Flyers. Adam, a 7’0’ powerful post player dominated the friendly match against the Flyers and quickly became a crowd favorite . Adam proved he was much more than a dominant low post player, several times going baseline to baseline with the ball and dropping the perfect pass to a teammate, or pulling up for a long three. By the end of the match, it seemed the crowd fell in love with Adam. Bristol Head Coach, Andreas Kapoulas immediately inquired about signing Adam after the match. Adam, who comes from a basketball background as both his father and step mother are highly successful college coach’s showed a love for the game that ignited the home crowd. Adam received multiple offers over the course of the tour, however, he felt as if the facility, crowd and overall opportunity in Bristol,as the right place for him to begin his professional career. The former NC State and Xavier player was excited to sign his first pro contract and loves the city of Bristol , England!
Sam Bradley signs with London Capitols!!!
Sam Bradley, Captain of the 2007 European Tour team signed his first professional contract with the London Capitols of the British Basketball League (BBL) the top league of professional basketball in the United Kingdom. Sean Kilmartin, Head Coach and GM of USA Select, arranged a tryout for Sam while on tour. The 6’5’ Christian Brothers University guard immediately impressed Capitols Coach Steve Bucknall. Impressing Coach Bucknall is no easy task as the former UNC Tar Heel stand out and NBA player has played all over the world! Sam was quite excited about living in London and learning from Coach Bucknall. Sam’s other American Teammate was former UNC stand out, Wes Miller.
Chucky Frierson signs with Turku NMKY in Finland 1st Division
USA Select Basketball is quite please to announce that Chucky Frierson has signed with Finland 1st Division team Turku NMKY. While following USA Select on the recent tour, this Finnish power house scouted Chucky and was impressed with is overall court savvy. Sean Kilmartin , USA Select GM personally made the introduction while the team was on tour in Finland. Chucky proved to be one of the most versatile players on tour. The 6’ 6 “ can play the 1,2,3 and 4. He was represented by Adam Prossin of Prossin Sports Management, one of the preferred agents of USA Select Basketball.
Outlook: Chucky is a versatile athletic player that can play 3, 4 as the 1, 2 positions well and he is the consummate team player who gets his teammates involved. Chucky is an outstanding defensive player who can stop dribble penetrations and is a strong rebounder with good awareness of the ball coming off. He is used to defending multiple positions on the court. He handles the ball well, pushes under control, is fast and aggressive with quick change of direction and incorporates a pull-up jump shot into his game as well as good consistent range from behind the 3pt arc.

USA Select Announces Josh Fowler has signed with Welsh Professional Team
Sean Kilmartin arranged for a tryout for 6’10 forward Josh Fowler (Coastal Carolina University and High Point University) while on the 2007 European Tour. Coach Williams is no stranger to professional basketball as he was once coach to USA Select founding partner David Lawrence when David was a star in the European Leagues!
Josh, an amiable young man, impressed Steve Williams, head coach of the Rhondda (Wales) EBL 3 team. Josh, who loved the beautiful Welsh landscape, felt immediately at home and almost signed on the spot!
Russell Jordan signs with BBL Leicester Riders
Russell Jordan, after short stint with the Reading Rockets of the EBL, signed with British Basketball League (BBL) contender, Leicester Riders. The smooth 6’6” left handed guard seems to have found a home. Having played for Kean College in the US, Jordan contacted USA Select GM, Sean Kilmartin in the summer of 2007 looking to play in Europe.
Ije Nwankwo signs with top team in Finland
Power forward Ije Nwankwo, a product for the 2006 European Tour, signed with Finnish team Componenta. Team Componenta was an opponent of the 2007 European Tour for USA Select Basketball and is managed by good friend of USA Select, Timo Hakaama . This is a well funded and supported team set in a beautiful Finnish town. Ije was represented by Sean Keneally and Delaney Rudd, both are preferred agents of USA Select Basketball.

Puff Summers, one of USA Select’s most enjoyable players signed with top Irish Team, Merry Monk Ballina. Team Merry Monk is a good friend of USA Select Basketball having hosted USA Select for 3 wonderful days on our 2007 European Tour. The time in Ireland was magical and head coach and General Manager, Terry Kennedy , made us feel as if we were family. Irish hospitality cannot be under appreciated. Coach Kennedy, a top Irish basketball coach, signed Puff after a very successful season in the EBL (England Basketball League) with Kings Lynn Fury.
Outlook: Excellent floor leader capable of directing a team. Solid offensive game made up of pull-up jumpers and quick drives to basket. Very good defender who is willing and able to put pressure on opponent’s best ball-handler in order to force turnovers to start fast-break.

ASU stars Noah Brown and Clint Deas sign with top team in Mexico
USA Select standout and former Appalachian State University standout, Noah Brown, signed with Mexican team Algodoneros in the Mexican LNBP League. Noah, the former EBL top scorer, was a prized catch for the team. USA Select GM Sean Kilmartin expects Noah to continue his offensive prowess with his new club. USA Select player Clint Deas also signs to play in Mexico with former Mountaineer Noah Brown! After a very short stint with the EBL power house, Reading Rockets, Deas had the opportunity for a nice pay raise and headed to Mexico. Clint, another former stand out for Houston Fancher’s Appalachian State University Mountaineers (NCAA D1). Clint was the EBL top rebounder last season, gathering 20 boards per game.
USA Select Favorite Rod Djahue signs with French Pro B team St. Vallier Basket Drome
Rodrique Djahue is one of USA Selects all time favorite players. The powerful Ivory Coast Born Center played at the University of Miami, appearing in over 90 games as a collegiate. He was a member of the Ivory Coast National Team -07, All-Africa Games in Algeria -07,African Championships in Angola -07. He was a teammate of Phoenix Sun, James Jones. Coached in high school by top college assistant, Tony Pujol (VCU). Rod has constantly been a target for professional teams, but his country of birth (ivory Coast) has always proved to be a challenge in getting a visa. His professional resume includes time in Portugal and the Miami Tropics and Miami Pit Bulls of the ABA. Signing with the French Pro B team, St. Vallier Basket Drome was a huge source of happiness for the entire USA Select Family. The powerful, 6’7” forward is great rebounder. He has 12 brother and sisters.
USA Select Player Vinnie Bittencourt Signs with Spanish Professional Team Club Baloncesta Alemria
Sean Kilmartin, General Manager of USA Select Basketball is happy to announce the contract signing of Vinnie Bittencourt. The 6’10” forward was represented by Agent Adam Prossin of the Prossin Sports Management Group. Mr. Prossin was instrumental in each step of the negotiation. Mr. Prossin is USA Select’s west coast director of scouting and is the agent to several USA Select players. Vinnie, a Brazillian native, was a Tennis All American at Virginia Intermont and then chose to pursue a professional basketball career. He was a participant in the USA Select Seattle camp hosted by Mr. Prossin. According to coach Kilmartin, “Vinnie showed wonderful athleticism and body coordination. He has a strong back to he basket game and can run the court. He is also quite a nice person who will adapt to the team and their needs.” The team, C.B. BLANES ALMERIA plays in the Spanish LEB Silver league.
USA Select GM Sean Kilmartin announced the Sheffield Arrows sign Brennan Martin
The Sheffield Arrows of the England Basketball league Premier Division signed USA Select player Brennan Martin. Brennan, who originally committed and signed letter of intent with Villanova University under Steve Lappas, played for the NCAA Division 1 University of Massachusetts.
The Sheffield Arrows are no stranger to USA Select players, having signed 7 in the past 4 years. The team is headed by the family partnership of Pete and Melanie Kelly and assisted by Shaun Meakin. The Arrows are well known to talent development and have produced several of the leagues top players. The last 3 scoring leaders in the league were USA Select players who played for the Sheffield Arrows. In Martin, the Arrows are getting one of the USA’s more sought after recruits going into college.
Brennan was ranked by ESPN.com as 2001 Top 10 Big East Conference incoming recruits as Villanova signee, Became member of first recruiting class ever for Steve Lappas at UMASS after he left Villanova and asked me to sign and come with him to UMASS once he immediately took head coaching position with UMASS.

Reading Rockets sign 2nd USA Select Player, Russell Jordan
The Reading Rockets of the England Basketball league signed USA Select player Russell Jordan. USA Select GM Sean Kilmartin sees Russell as an extremely athletic player who hustles on both ends of the floor and rebounds well enabling him to play the forward and guard positions. He holds the highly coveted British Passport.
A well rounded player , Russell previously played for VSC MR PLAN DONAUWORTH (GERMANY) averaging 14.7pts, 12.3rbs, 1.6stls, 1.4blks, 3.7asts

Kauhajoki Bears of Finland’s top division sign USA Select’s Josh Gross for 2007 – 2008 Season
The Kauhajoki Bears have signed their first American import for the upcoming season with the signing of 6’6” swingman Josh Gross. Gross last played in the NBA Development League for the LA D-Fenders, the farm team for the LA Lakers. Coach Gibson’s Comments: We are very excited about having Josh join our team this season. He is an extremely athletic player that does a lot of things well. I had the opportunity to see Josh play several games this summer at a camp in Greensboro, NC and felt right away that his style of play would fit in well with what we are trying to do here in Kauhajoki. Josh will be asked to do a lot for us this season but I know he is excited about this new challenge and will do well More importantly Josh is a great person off the court. Kings Lynn Fury Announce the second signing of a USA Select player for 2007
Sean Kilmartin, GM of USA Select basketball confirmed the signing of Craig Williams a 6’ 7” 219 Erskine College forward. he was a four-year starter at NCAA Division II Erskine College. The Lings Lynn Fury have already inked another USA Select player, Davidson standout Lamar Hull a few days ago. The Fury, headed by sharpshooting player / coach James Bramfield play in the top division of the England Basketball League (EBL) Erskine’s career field goal percentage leader, shooting at a 64.4 percent clip for his career and ranks fifth on Erskine’s all-time scoring ledger, scoring 1,681 points for his career. He was a three-time All Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Team honoree.

Possesses good post moves, but has also shown the ability to connect on the mid-range and outside jump shots effectively. He is also able to handle the ball well and penetrate to the basket extraordinarily well for his size. He possesses all the intangibles of a good post player, while possessing the abilities rarely seen in post players in today’s game. Kings Lynn Fury of the England Basketball League’s top division signs Davidson College point guard, Lamar Hull
USA Select General Manager Sean Kilmartin announced the professional signing of Davidson College point guard Lamar Hull to the England Basketball League’s Kings Lynn Fury. Lamar was a key reserve on the NCAA Tournament teams coached by renowned coach Bob Mc Killop of Davidson College. Upon the end of his college season, Coach Mc Killop personally called Kilmartin to discussed his point guards abilities and desires to play professionally in Europe. McKillop said Lamar was one of the finest young men he knows and related several personal stories about Lamar. He then asked coach Kilmartin to personally get involved. After watching Lamar in camp, it was obvious he could help a team.
Lamar, a native of Maiden, NC, is another in a long line of quality point guards from Davidson College. As a key reserve, Lamar helped the Wildcats to two very successful seasons. As a high school player, Lamar averaged 19 points per game his senior season. Kings Lynn Fury, of the England Basketball League’s top division was quite pleased to get a player of Lamar’s skill and basketball knowledge. Following in the footsteps of another Davison point guard, Puff Summers, Lamar will be asked to lead his team on and of the court fort the Fury.
Appalachian State Star Demetrius Scott signs with Worthing Thunder of England Basketballs Premier Division
USA Select General Manager, Sean Kilmartin, announced Demetrius Scott signed his first professional basketball contract with the Worthing Thunder of the England Basketball League.
Demetrius was a key figure in Appalachian State University’s record 25 win season at the NCAA Division 1 level. In 2006-07 he played in all 32 games, helped lead to team to best record in school history.
Averaged 10 points and nearly 3 assists per game while scoring double figures 15 times (high game of 20), averaged 15 points and 5 assists in So Con Tournament and was named to the All Tournament Team. Coached by very successful Houston Fancher, Demetrius will be quite ready for life as a professional.
In 2005-06 Started all 30 games , he averaged 8.3 points per game , had 12 double-digit scoring performances and scored a career-high 24 points at UNCG (Jan. 21) … averaged 11.3 points in the So Con Tournament … scored 17 points at JMU (Nov. 28) and 15 points in the So Con semifinal game (March 4) … had seven assists versus Niagara (Dec. 30) in the Duquesne Holiday Tournament and followed that up with a career-high nine rebounds against Duquesne … notched a career high in steals with six at UNCG … shot 46 percent from the field … shot 58 percent during the So Con Tournament … was second on the team in minutes played with 902.

The Atlantis Reading Rockets have signed American forward Clint Deas
Fans of the English Basketball League will already be familiar with his name as Deas starred for a young and talented Sheffield team during last season’s campaign.
Deas played his college basketball at the College of Southern Idaho and Division 1 Appalachian State University, and is a product of coach Sean Kilmartin’s USA Select team that tour Europe and regularly take on EBL and BBL competition.

USA Select announces former team member Ryan Blankson signs in Australia
The Mount Gambier Star FM Pioneers are pleased to announce the signing of 26 year old US import Ryan Blankson, a 6 6”, 110kg, Power Forward / Centre graduating from Loyola University, Chicago, averaging 10 points and 10 rebounds in season 02/03. He led the NCAA in offensive rebounding and was ranked 18th in the nation in total rebounds with 10 per game.
Ryan has extensive experience playing internationally in England, Romania and Uruguay.
In season 2003 / 2004 he averaged 22 points and 12 rebounds as an integral player for his club the Sheffield Arrows in England. Ryan got his first professional opportunity as a member of the USA Select Basketball Team for coach Sean Kilmartin.
Completing only half of the season, he returned to the USA to play in the highly competitive ABA for the Las Vegas Rattlers, where he was a consistent performer with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
In 2005 he played for Romania Otopeni where he averaged 14 points and 12 rebounds and in 2006 secured a contract to play in Uruguay averaging 20 points and 13 rebounds.
USA Select Basketball announces the contract for Ben Bridges
USA Select General Manager, Sean Kilmartin announced the contract for Ben Bridges with Merry Monk Bellina in the Irish Superleague. Bridges, a 6’7” 240 lb post player was signed by the club on the 2006 USA Select European Tour. The club, Merry Monk Bellina, play in the top league in the Ireland, the Superleague.
Merry Monk had scouted Bridges on multiple occasions and were in constant communication with Kilmartin throughout the tour. Ben Bridges is fundamentally sound player and very efficient around the basket.
According to Kilmartin, “Ben has a remarkable knack for high efficiency scoring in the lane, nothing fancy, just points! He has one of the best “Old School” games I have ever seen.”
The club, Merry Monk, is a well supported team with a long history of success in Ireland. The club has a loyal following and a history of being quite good to their players.
USA Select Basketball announces Lawrence Summers signs to play in EBL
USA Select Basketball Head Coach and General Manger, Sean Kilmartin announced that Davidson College graduate, Lawrence Summers signed a contract to play basketball in the England Basketball League (EBL)
Lawrence signed to play in the England Basketball League with the Kings Lynn Fury, coached by James Bramfield. Coach Bramfield and Coach Kilmartin worked out the details within a few hours of the 2006 Tour landing in London.
Summers, a 5’10″ Point Guard, played under highly successful coach, Bob McKillop at Southern Conference power, Davidson College. Lawrence, who is better known by his nickname; “Puff” made the USA Select 2006 European Tour team through tryouts, immediately impressed Sean Kilmartin. According to Coach Kilmartin, ” Puff was one of the smartest players I have seen through our tryout process over the years. He has a very high basketball I.Q., having played for Coach McKillop, that is not unusual.”
USA Select announces the draft selection of John Gross for NBDL!
USA Select Basketball announced that Josh Gross, the 6’6″ guard was selected by the LA Defenders in the NBDL expansion draft. According to Kilmartin, “Josh was the most sought after player on the 2006 European Tour, it is easy to see why he was drafted so high. He can do some many things on the court. Off the court, he is simply one of the nicest gentleman I have ever been around.
He had a stellar career at UNC Greensboro (Southern Conference) where he competed against other USA Select players Clint McFarland, Clint Deas and Lawrence Summers! His highlights: Finished collegiate career as the ninth all-time in UNC-Greensboro’s Division I history with 431. Played in 111 career games, which ranks seventh in school D-I history. Started 42 times, scored in double figures 29 times, and posted five career double-doubles.
Josh defended the point to the post for us on tour, stated Kilmartin. His agent was very bullish on his ability to do well in the NBDL! In my opinion, he has an extremely good opportunity to make the defenders and possibly make it to the NBA. (If he does, he promised his wife, Faith, he would take her to London for her anniversary.)
USA Select Basketball announces Johnny Jackson signs in the English Basketball League!
Johnny Jackson, the 6’4″ shooting guard from Coker College signs with the Lincolnshire Wildcats of the England Basketball League. (EBL)Johnny Jackson, a high scoring guard from Coker College was signed to a contract by the Lincolnshire Wildcats of the EBL. Sean Kilmartin, GM of USA Select Basketball arranged the signing personally while Johnny was a member of the 2006 European Tour team.
Johnny averaged over 17 points per game for Coach Dan Smoltzer at Coker and he also lead the team in minutes. Although he had to share minutes with a very talented USA select team, he still managed to show enough promise to land his first professional contract!
According to Coach Kilmartin, “Johnny was willing to do what he needed to get his foot in the door. He made it clear to me that he was willing to work hard and wanted to make this his career and just wanted a chance” Ironically,Johnny first game was against the Kings Lynn Fury who signed USA Select player, Lawrence Summers!
USA Select Basketball Announces Ije Nwankwo Signs in Portugal
Nwankwo with Proliga Portugal Grand Vitoria. Nwankwo, the 6’8″ power forward was a product of Perdue University and Cleveland State. Ije has very good size ( 260+ lbs and a 7’2″ wingspan) to go along with his 27″ vertical. The team, Vitoria SC/M. Couto Alves (Proliga) was the Portuguese Champions in 2006.
Ije had just completed a successful showcase, the 2006 USA Select European Tour. On the tour, he size and skill created some notice.

Shawan Robinson of Clemson has accepted an offer from the Newcastle Eagles in the British Basketball League
The 6’2″ Clemson University star, Shawan Robinson, has accepted an offer by Paul Blake (Chairman of the Eagles) and his head coach, Fab Flourney. Newcastle’s desire to sign Shawan was illustrated by the effort put in. The Chairman, Mr. Blake, was actually on honeymoon 7,000 miles from home and the head coach, Flourney was on vacation in Barbados and they still manager to get the deal done!
The Newcastle Eagles have one of the strongest organizations in British basketball, with tremendous crowd support. Both GM Blake and Coach Flourney are both long time friends of USA Select Basketball.
According to Kilmartin, “Newcastle is a wonderful place for Shawan. They have a great facility, big crowds, another Clemson former player on the roster and great management.”
USA Select General Manager, Sean Kilmartin, has known Shawan for many years. Shawan’s father, Darryl Robinson was one of the all time great players at Appalachian State University and the teammate of the brother USA Select co founder David Lawrence!

Robinson made 84-92 free throws this year for a .913 percentage this past season to rank third in the nation. He led the ACC and in fact the .913 percentage was fourth best in ACC history, trailing only three seasons by J.J. Redick. Robinson is the first Clemson player to lead the ACC in free throw shooting since 1966-67 Robinson finished his career with a .833 percentage, sixth best in school history.
Shawan Robinson became the first Tiger basketball player to be named Academic All-ACC each of his four seasons after being announced to the 2005-06 team Thursday afternoon by the Atlantic Coast Conference. A native of Raleigh, NC, Robinson joins Quin Snyder (Duke, 1986-89), Henrik Rodl (North Carolina, 1990-93), and Matt Harpring (Georgia Tech, 1995-98) as the only four-time men’s basketball selections in ACC history. Robinson earned his undergraduate degree in elementary education from Clemson on May 12.
Robinson was a student teacher at nearby Central Elementary while also helping the Tiger basketball team to a 19-13 record and second straight NIT appearance. He was a 2004-05 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honoree as well. He finished the 2005-06 season as the ACC’s free throw accuracy leader at 91.3 percent, which ranks fourth-best in league history. He finished third nationally in that category. He led the Clemson team in scoring at 12.3 points per game and in three-point baskets with 63. Robinson finished his career with 201 from beyond the arc, third-most in school history. He also finished in the Tigers’ top 20 in career points (1,177), three-point percentage (.377), free throw percentage (.833), and steals (124).
USA Select announces Maurice Horton of Mount Olive College signs with -Kauhajoki Karhu, Finland
Maurice Horton, who was named Mount Olive College Male Athlete of the Year for basketball, lead his team to 3 consecutive NCAA II tournament appearances and 3 straight 20 win seasons!
USA Select General Manager and Head Coach Sean Kilmartin announced that the signing took place at one of our try out camps. Greg Gibson, coach of the Finish team attended the camp and liked the athleticism that the 6’0″ guard brought to the table. -The team, Kauhajoki Karhu is in the 1st Division of Finland, in the city of city of Kauhajoki.
Very athletic guard that can play both the point and the shooting guard positions. Extremely quick, excellent defender, very energetic and just knows how to win. According to his college coach Bill Clingan “Maurice is the most competitive player I have had in my 16 seasons as a college head coach”. Was a big part of teams three straight NCAA II Tournament Appearances including “Elite 8” appearance in 2005.
Lead team to 25-7 overall record and trip to NCAA II Tournament and averaged 12 points per game, 4 rebounds per game, 3.3 assists per game and 2.5 steals per game. Coach Gibson’s comments on Maurice: I had a chance to see Maurice at a camp this summer in Raleigh, NC at the USA Select camp and immediately loved his athleticism and hard play. Maurice will give us the much needed depth at the guard spots we need in order to win the league.
USA Select Basketball announces Atiba Lyons signs with Sheffield Sharks of the BBL!
USA Select Basketball announces that Atiba Lyons (Pace University and formerly of Kauhajoki Karhu is in the 1st Division of Finland and Toulouges in the French National 1 division) has signed a contract with the Westfield-Sheffield Sharks of the British Basketball League.
Atiba, a native of Queens, New York, is a 6’6″ forward who can play both the 3 and the 4. He is a polished and polite young man who does well off the court also.
USA select General Manager, Sean Kilmartin, arranged the contract with good friend Peter Scantlebury of the Sharks. Scantlebury, one of the most respected players and coaches in British Basketball history. Peter and Sean have a friendship that spans over 20 years. The relationship with coach Scantlebury is a long one. In addition to competing against USA Select founders Sean Kilmartin and David LAwrence in their professional careers, Scantlebury was actually a teammate of David Lawrence older brother Reynaldo in London in the 80′s.
Former USA Select player, Nate Carson signs to play in Italy
In a phone call to USA Select General Manager, Nate Carson announced he had accepted a new contract to play in Italy for the 2006/7 season.
USA Select player, Nate Carson (Appalachian State University 2002) announced that he has agreed to terms with Italian 2nd division team (details and terms to be announced) Nate was a member of the USA Select Toured England, Wales and France.
Upon completion of his successful tour, he immediately signed his first contract to play professional basketball in the Swiss National League team with Vevey and then the following year with TESTUS BBC Nyon.
After outstanding performance, he has now moved to one of the best leagues in the world!
Sean Kilmartin, coach of USA Select stated, “Nate is one of the more versatile players around. He is a physical 6’5,” wing that can shoot well from the 3 point line and still is powerful enough to defend most 4′s and 5′s. He can score around the basket and had outstanding college coaching with Buzz Peterson and Houston Fancher. February 9, 2006 Hotshots Sign 6’8″ Michael Pitts
Central Oregon Hotshots’ head coach, JJ Anderson, announced the signing of 6’8″, 230 lb Power Forward / Center, Michael Pitts of Baltimore, Maryland to the roster. The versatile big man returns to the States following his participation on Team USA Select where he helped lead the Americans in winning the Kontext Cup championship against First Division Czech and Hungarian teams.
Pitts is a 2005 graduate of Barber Scotia College in North Carolina where he was an All-Conference performer and the league’s rebounding leader, averaging 17 PPG, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks with highs of 33, 15 and 6 respectively.
He also competed at Indiana University-Southeast and Wabash Valley College where he was teammates with Boston Celtic, Tony Allen.
“Michael will bring a solid inside presence to our team,” explained Anderson. “He has good footwork on both ends, hits the boards hard – particularly on the offensive end and has range out to the three point line which helps stretch the defense.”
The Hotshots’ coach believes that the 24-year old Pitts will create versatility in the lineup, an important key to this year’s squad. “Michael has the offensive range and quickness to work at the 4-spot when we go big and he can use his strength inside when we want to go quicker and use him in the post.”
Like several of this year’s players, Pitts has competed in several camps and Pro-Ams, as well as his European Tour, but the Hotshots will provide his first full professional season – a fact Pitts hopes will springboard his professional career overseas next fall.

Ricky Moore signs with a Top Team in Ukraine!
Ricky Moore, member of the 2005 USA Select Basketball Team is leading top team Khamik-OPZ Yuzny of the Ukrainian Super League. Ricky, who played point guard position for the NCAA National Champion UConn Huskies, was also named NCAA Defensive Player of the Year by Basketball News during his collegiate years.
He is having a banner year so far and in a recent conversation with USA Select Coach Sean Kilmartin, Ricky expressed his enjoyment of the current situation in the Ukraine. Power Forward John Bryant brings his strength to Newcastle Eagles
USA Selects John Bryant signs his first professional contract with the Newcastle Eagle’s of the British Basketball League (BBL). John, was the most dominant big man on the USA Select 2005 European Tour, and had several offers while traveling overseas. He chose the Eagles, coached by Fabulous Flourney and managed by Paul Blake. The Eagles are among the elite teams in the BBL and lead the league in attendance. John is currently showing why he was looked at so heavily during the tour, as he is in the top ten for the BBL in scoring percentage.
In college, John started on a team that was ranked # 1 in the NCAA polls for much of a season. He played along side 3 NBA players and a top European player. During his college career he and classmate Pat Carroll combined to post a 96-33 record during their four years, the second best mark by a class in the program’s history… During his five years at SJU (first one as red shirt), the Hawks made five postseason appearances, with three in the NCAA Tournament and two in the NIT.

He is one of the few players that USA Select looked to bringing back after his 2003 Tour with the team.
